Weblog Assignment (300 points)

You are to create your own personal Weblog using “Blogger.” The theme for your blog will be either unfamiliar culture or intercultural communication incompetence.

Unfamiliar culture: Choose a theme each week (i.e. religion, food, music, etc.) and research about your chosen culture. For example, if you choose “India” as your chosen culture, you might choose to write about popular music, religion, or food in India. Similarities exist across cultures. Note not only differences, but also seek out the similarities with your own culture. How is the popular music in India different yet similar to your culture? What must one observe during an encounter with a person from India to avoid committing a faux pas? For example, winking has a whole different level of meaning in India than in the United States.

Intercultural communication incompetence: Search the web each week to find world events in which you believe: 1) assists in cultural understanding or misunderstanding, 2) perpetuate cultural stereotypes, 3) led to a cultural faux pas, or any actions which act as a barrier to intercultural communication competence.

Create a link or paste the story onto your blog. Write thoughts on why you consider the action to be a barrier to creating intercultural understanding and harmony. What would you change so that intercultural understanding and harmony maybe reached? (Must use concepts and theories from this class in your entries!!)

Blog entries must be completed by December 1^st and should equal 10 entries.

Use creativity in designing your weblog. You may use photos, sounds, movie clips (i.e. You Tube), etc.
